Supervised Individualized Residential Alternative (IRA)
When you choose to live in a Coarc Supervised IRA, we meet with you, your family, and/or circle of support to match a place to live to your hopes and dreams. Our homes are for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including autism, who are ages 18 years of age or older and live in Columbia County, NY. You must be eligible for OPWDD funded services.
Together we develop a personal life plan to focus on your abilities, desires, and needs, and to encourage independence. You can learn to take your medication on your own, manage personal finances, and make healthy decisions. You help with meals and housekeeping tasks. You explore your community and build social relationships. You practice safety skills to prepare for a more independent place to live.
Some homes are staffed with one Direct Support Professional at all times, while others have three to four, depending on the abilities of the people who live there. Coarc registered nurses make regular visits and are on call at all times. Behavioral and nutritional support is also available. We can schedule consultants for psychology, social work, physical therapy, occupational therapy or speech and language needs. Most medical supports are through providers in the community.
Our 14 homes are single family residences in Columbia County. Group size in our homes varies from three to eight people. Our homes have private single bedrooms except in one home. They are decorated in styles chosen by those who live there. Some homes are in towns with much to do within walking distance, while and others offer a quiet country environment. Every home has one or two vehicles for community outings and appointments.
Waiting lists for Coarc Supervised IRAs may apply.
